Justicar Tanking Spec Guide - 5man through T1 Raid 1.8

I really like the builds you posted i found your charge build to be rather fun to play with altho it felt more like Single Target DPS spec rather than Tank. I Would like to share a build that i personally use http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=10...esdqo.Vx.Vg.-5 I call it the 1 Man army its main focus is on the utility with maximum HP and Armor. Having a Build with Purge and a cleanse while still having decent mitigation is what won me over when i made this build. With the changes made how Clerics do AoE aggro i use Bolt of radiance to pull then hit DoL once or twice. When it comes to pulling Caster type mobs or mixed group thats when Rebuke comes in handy. I use this build in 5 man , 10 mans RoTP included, 20 mans except HK as my guild is short on healers so im forced to heal.

Certainly a worthy spec! Mitigation looks good and it has great utility. I admit I might be a little fussed if my party needed me to both cleanse and purge, but I could see it turning a bad PUG episode into a bearable one. Only thing left is to figure out how to amp up damage or self heals to be able to solo dungeons!

Question on this build. I am using the shaman/cab build with 51 just right now. Something close to the following:

How does the purifier build match up to this build for mitigation? Is the shield from purifier better than the shield from shaman? Also, is it worth losing the block and magic mitigation that cab brings? I am currently about 11k HP and tanking experts and my squish is pretty significant. Wondering if switching to this over the cab build would help that.

The shield from purifier will be better with the 5 points in Protection of the Ancestors.

The gains you make from 5% spell power is pretty minimal and is actually 5% of 30% of spell power SO [.05*.3* spell power (lets assume base 1k spell power for easy math)] = 15 gain to your block stat. Your own spell power will vary and the easy way is to just check each build and look at your block after going through a rotation on the dummy.

Dark Harbor is a little tougher as its a gain of 40 magic protection, the tradeoff in purifier is 6% more armor for physical protection. The two don't compare directly. However, Cauterize does lend utility to this in many cases as it is your own cleanse. Against direct spells it doesn't help, but for DoT's and debuffs you can reduce the amount of damage you take by self cleansing. A good healer will take care of it for you, but then a good healer won't have problems keeping your squishy self alive either.

So as of 1.8 are Cleric tanks viable as tanks in all content? I know before you wouldn't ever want to tank HK as a Cleric; has that changed? It seems pretty... bogus to have a "faux tank" that can't tank new raids, only outdated raids and expert dungeons.

AFAIK, cleric tanks got a pretty hefty mitigation buff and lost some avoidance, but since mit is everything, that's not a huge problem.

Some of the cleric cooldowns are actually potentially useful and the mien switching is definitely a potential plus.

Ask me again after I have to heal a cleric tank through Sicaron.

That doesn't sound too favorable since Sicaron is outdated content now that ID is out but I get the point. I wonder if clerics can tank ID.

Can tank it. Just aren't preferred on it. Mitigation is still a bit lesser than Wars and HP pool is lesser so Wars are still preference for progression. A cleric tank can certainly do it, just requires more attention.

I'm wondering what the point is of including Spirit Rupture in the ranged macro in the first Justicar spec above. It has a cast time, so unless Rift tanking doesn't work the way I'm thinking you are defenseless during the cast time, so you would never use it in combat. Perhaps to pull (but with that macro it would never fire on the pull), but outside of a fight like Cyclorax in CC where he can be range tanked, I don't get what use it has.

You've got the right idea, it is used for a ranged pull when the others are down. It does build conviction for the follow up DoL to actually grab group agg. It is seldom used but is available if everything is out and you can't run to your target. Not in any way required but I hate to hit a button and have nothing happen.
