  • NecroLoc Guide - Leveling, Grinding, or 5-man this guy does it! 1.8

    Necromancer (28)/Warlock (38)/Archon (0)
You may wish to swap 1 point in Master Chirurgeon for Feign Death

    Provides :
    Significant survivability
    Pet Tank\Self Tank
    Health\Mana Regen
    Medium to Medium-High DPS

The focus on this spec is constant chain-pulling\AOE clusters with as little downtime as possible. It is suitable for everyone from fresh 50's to fully geared raiders. Leveling with the spec is also a breeze and skill selection is fairly simple. It is not however macro friendly and requires paying attention to DoT timers.

Starting, pick which pet you need for the area and method you want to use.

    AOE - Summon: Shadow Revenant
DPS - Summon: Skeletal Horror\Summon: Skeletal Zealot
Tank - Summon: Skeletal Stalwart\Summon: Skeletal Knight

Summon: Skeletal Zealot and Summon: Skeletal Knight replace the lower level pets once you've learned Ancient Tomb at 26 into Necromancer. Summon: Shadow Revenant becomes available at that time as well.
For single target or chain pulling of normal mobs Summon: Skeletal Horror\Summon: Skeletal Zealot is my normal choice as its DPS is very good and self tanking is the preferred method for quick kills. For elites I prefer to use Summon: Skeletal Stalwart\Summon: Skeletal Knight for much improved survivability. For 5-man dungeons with a dedicated tank I will use Summon: Shadow Revenant for the trash mobs and Summon: Skeletal Horror\Summon: Skeletal Zealot for bosses.

    Buffs
    Neddra's Strength\Neddra's Might
Dark Armor\Warlock Armor - Warlock Armor replaces Dark Armor once available at 26 points in Warlock.
Searing Vitality - This should be cast on a mob every 5 minutes to refresh and can be included in rotation as needed.
Pillaging Stone - This should be cast on a mob every 5 minutes to refresh and can be included in rotation as needed.

    Utility
Sacrifice Life: Mana - Use this as required to replace Mana
Reconstruct - Use this between fights to exchange charge for Health.
Sacrifice Life: Damage - Seldom used grinding but helpful on Elites and Dungeon Bosses.
Reclaim Power : Mana at the cost of your pets life!
    Choke
    Fear
    Wither
    Blood Binding
    Life Shift

Single Target Rotation - Refresh DoT's as they fall off.
    Life Leech
Essence Link - 60 second duration
    Dark Touch
    Necrosis
    Defile
    Searing Vitality
Looming Demise - 60 second duration
    Grave Rot
Void Bolt [Spam] - Use this on each opportunity proc.

Soul Purge when either you or your pet is low on health. This is a DPS gain and if you can work it into your rotation with your charge levels while not sacrificing your Defile charge it is advantageous. Blood Binding can be used to heal your pet if incoming damage is low.

    AOE Grinding Rotation
    Life Leech all targets
Dark Touch > Neddra's Grasp > Radiate Death - Refresh each time Radiate Death is up.
    Grave Rot
    Devouring Shadows

Refresh Life Leech as required if self tanking, Soul Purge as required if pet tanking.
Use Mortality if things go to pot and you find yourself in the soup!

    Dungeon AOE Rotation
    Grave Rot
Dark Touch > Neddra's Grasp > Radiate Death - Skip this if trash dies quickly
    Devouring Shadows

    PvP Single Target Rotation
Essence Link - 60 second Heal Debuff!
Life Leech - If you don't have a healer around.
    Dark Touch
    Necrosis
Grave Rot - Unless on the move
    Defile\Soul Purge
    Void Bolt [Spam]

If running, slap all of your DoT's on your target, you don't even have to face them for this! Yes its a kiter's dream!

Great spec to use while solo grinding Quests, faction, or just plain farming. I highly recomend this spec above any other "solo" spec out there. I ask those new to this spec to please swap 1 point in Master Chirurgeon for Feign Death. I can't tell you all how many times FD has saved me from a corpse run.

oh and on the Dungeon AOE Rotation part. change "is" to "if" :P

Im a little confused as to which spec would be prio on which souls to spend your points in first?

And also being completly new to mages, i'm right in understanding I will change my spec at 50?

alot of the guides on here seem very full on and alot to take in, i'v'e very much enjyoed your guide and i will be trying it out ! thanks

Necrolock can be used at 50 to solo, it will just take a while to kill stuff, but you should never die (Feign Death FTW). There are far better specs in terms of damage output, but they are highly gear dependent since mages lack a tanking soul to give us a stable survivability base.

Do look into getting a different spec for Experts and Tier 1 raids though.
