Hello folks I have been using the defile spec for a while now (old and and new with SL: D) Tbh I see absolutely no dps increase especialy not when parsing on a dummy.
With 1873 sp and 1119 sc (so no p.stone vial or whatever) i'm avargly doing 2500 on dummys now wich is exectly the same as before the patch. Even tho i'm using more skills with a extra dmg modifyer now (like void and fireball fillers) . Anyone got an idear whats going on here?

im right there with you. Im parsing 2.5k with 1877sp and 1133 sc (thats with pillaging stone and flaring glyph only). When i use powerstones, cake, and vial I tend to have the same dps.. it doesnt seem to increase at all.

Quick question: do you have IC up when casting fireballs or do you turn it off and save it only for the DoTs?

I have about SP/SC 1967/1156 (self buffed without food or powerstone) and my average parse on the dummy is 2750 (food and stone buffed its about 3000+). There are some variables which, in my opinion, should be considered: (ACT Parse: http://orgq3masch.or.funpic.de/Parse.../Pyrolock.html )

    1. I dont stack pillage stone 5x in the beginning, i hit sacrifice life and start with life leech and then i do the normal rotation, when it comes to filling the gap with fireball i cast pillagestone
as you can think the first 5 times. this method gives you a faster dps gaining in the beginning.

    2. i dont really agree with your flamebolt / fireball macro, because if you are refreshing the long dot row (searing v., countdown, dark touch, defile) it may happen that the +10% wears off
one should rather use a seperate key for it. nevertheless i agree that flame bolt is worthier looking at the gcd of 1 sek and the casttime of fireball

    3. as you can see by 2.) my dot refreshing method is searing v., countdown, dark touch, defile - not quite sure if thats the best rotation but since they are up nonstop it should do
i personally dont use any kind of addons for this rotation, i use countdown tot time my dots:
if the cooldown of countdown has wearn 75% off its time to hit flame bold in order to then hit searing v. and instantly after the cd refresh countdown.
using this method i can complete the rest of the rotation simply b looking at my countdown cooldown (and the timing perfectly fits)

this should be another way of dealing with the timing in this rotation, without addons

additionally i would really like to see some more parses in order to know where i'm standing with my playstyle and dps

I tried the 38/28 as I finally got my fourth Raid T2 item.
And man, this is crazy to keep it up. Starting IC and setting all the DoTs, at the end IC is almost faded out.
IC is practically running thru my fingers.

This 'rotation' seems quite impossible. Oh, and where does anyone find time for the fillers in this.
Any good suggestion how to get this really to work?

That's silly, they are asking for help\advice. I'm not comfortable enough with the spec myself to give it or I would.

So far, I have gotten the best parses by starting with a full rotation of the dots, and then continuing to play whack-a-mole the rest of the fight using the outlined priority system (I'm using Karuuls to do this). The upside of this method seems to be that I can refresh the dots fairly accurately while hitting the procs when possible. It is also beneficial making sure that LL doesn't get refreshed too soon. The down side seems to be that without a fixed rotation, the 8 and 16 second dots often expire at the exact same exact time leading to some dps loss.

My question is this. Does this method parse higher for the rest of you? or are you having more luck with a fixed rotation? From all the posts I've read, it wasn't entirely clear to me that there was a consensus on this.

Hamster- the full rotation of dots works great on the dummy, just make sure your archon waits a while to hit flaring. As far as the people who arent parsing higher in 1.8... well they must be doing something wrong because most of us are parsing way higher.

Im definately seeing a dps increase from the 36/30 pyro lock... the pyro lock spec has reaaly high burst damage but ends up leveling out about 3-500dps lower than the defilemancer. And im slowly getting used to the spec... i can now pump out around 2.6k dps with only flaring glyph, stones, and regular buffs.

I use karuul alert and I followed sorcery's suggestion about using pillaging stones instead of fireball the first couple mins in a raid fight.. It works well for me!

And Lionel..... u need to use sacrifice life damage and only use IC when sacrifice life damage is on CD.

I am not sure if anyone already said this, but if the duration of a dot is lowered and the damage amount stays the same, it is a buff and not a nerf. So searing vitality was buffed in 1.8. And I think even before 1.8, searing vitality did more dps than dark touch. So for sure move up searing vitality over dark touch in the priority. And you will notice a dps increase thanks to situations like searing vit/dark touch -> void bolt -> defile -> searing vit/dark touch. Either SV or DT will be doing several ticks.

And about whether adding life leech in 36/30 is worth it... Look at the damage it does? Is it so hard to figure it out? Basically anything that does more damage than fireball is worth it (also considering cast time ofc).
