Thread: Essences : Lessers better than Greaters?

Question Essences : Lessers better than Greaters?

So, I've been struggling with the shape-changing effect from Necrotic Rage (blocks mounting, hides the tether in the General Silgen, etc.). A friend says that they use lessers in their greater slots. According to the gearlist BlueDot put up, the DPS output seems comparable between the Necrotic Rage and some of the better lessers.

Does anyone have an opinion on this or use lessers in place of greaters themselves?

Just had the same discussion in my guild. We banned Necrotic Rage from our raids since the shape-changing effect has such a huge impact on several encounters. Besides that I really enjoy the steady dps with the lesser essences.

Honestly, since the better lessers introduced not long ago are better than Necrotic Rage and do NOT have those annoying visual bugs (i.e. can't see contract on Sicaron, tether on Silgen, there is absolutely zero reason to use Necrotic Rage. All of my sigils contain 6 lessers and, IMHO, that is superior to using Greaters.

In fact, last night I saw one our mages go Lich while on Sicaron and I started to worry that we were going to wipe because of it. I have to remember to talk to him tonight about it. He's the only one in our guild that still has it.

Yup I agree with above... Necrotic is out.
The SP is comparable plus you get resist or endurance.

because its a proc that consumes stacks its actual SP weight is much lower than the proc would have you believe, I'll add it to the current BiS sheet when I update the trinkets / greaters list tomorrow

Its quite below 100insc sourcestone quality. If you do the simple math, you do 175+x+x+x devided by the procs, i believe it was like 4 or 5? then you take the internal cooldown into consideration as well as the average time it takes to proc. and i believe it was like 30sp.

However when you parse its way rubbish, n u think why? Because a 30sp essence will allways be used on every fireball crit, cinderburst, dot etc. And i believe every about 10-15 abilities the proc will start, so even with simple math here you see that there's a 30% chance the proc will be on your cinderburstnuke.

So with leaving the very long complicated math for another time, you can at least take 10% of the 30sp.

The only situiation I can imagine this being an advantage is in a PVP Battleground with a Spec that highly supports burst dmg (like some pyro spec)

In a heavy AOE damage on raid situation I would think the greaters with shield to be highly competitive, esp. as they are proccing so often.

The Adorned Shadeshard works fantastically if you use it with something like a pyro spec if you are doing mostly AOE. The firestorm spell will tick the whole length at whatever the first tic proc was.... but i still think the lessers are bettter.
